Looking back on a lively and inspiring SMB Network Meeting!

On May 8, we welcomed students, researchers, and professionals to Noviotech Campus for an afternoon filled with networking, insights, and talent development in the life sciences sector.

The event was co-organised with HAN University of Applied Sciences, Master Molecular Life Sciences (MLS), and opened with a strong introduction by Andrea Thiele, who explained how the MLS apprenticeship model helps close the talent gap and drive innovation in the field.

We kicked off before the SMB Network Meeting with a practical networking skills workshop by Frank Smallegange, after which participants could immediately put their new skills into practice during the company market.

A true highlight was hearing from apprentices and supervisors at Enzyre, Elena Krivosheeva and Danique Steeghs and ImmunoPrecise Antibodies (IPA), Lisan Scholten and Ellen van Geffen. Their journeys — from bachelor studies through the MLS program to exciting roles in biotech — gave a powerful glimpse into the future of the sector. With John Schalken as our engaged and experienced moderator (‘als vanouds’), the plenary discussions were both lively and inspiring.

The event wrapped up with great conversations, networking, and delicious cold and warm bites at the buzzing company market — with supporting partners like Avantor, EP&C, and many more.

SMB Network Meeting Fuel Your Innovation with Skilled MSc. Apprentices in Life Science

We’re excited to invite you to the SMB Network Meeting in May, organized in collaboration with HAN University of Applied Sciences and its MSc. of Molecular Science students. This special edition will take place at Noviotech Campus, where we’ll connect professionals, researchers, and students around the theme of Life Sciences. For innovators, organisations and students, who wish to grow into their best selves.

The full program includes a workshop Networking skills with trainer Frank Smallegange, followed by a company market and inspiring network meeting. All events are open to our broader community.

The meeting will be moderated by our former SMB director John Schalken, ensuring lively and insightful discussions. It starts with an introduction on how the HAN Master Molecular Life Sciences (MLS) apprenticeship model contributes solving talent gaps, innovation and growth of life sciences companies. After this, representatives of two different life science enterprises, the start-up Enzyre and the globally operating company ImmunoPrecise Antibodies, will share their experiences with HAN Master MLS apprentices from the perspectives of employer and student. Finally, there are plenty of opportunities to network between (prospective) students and employers.

Nieuwe challenges Digital Health Challenge Lab

Digital Health Challenge Lab (DHCL) is een vooruitstrevend open innovatieprogramma dat werkt aan slimme en kostenefficiënte vernieuwingen die ervoor kunnen zorgen dat iedereen langer, gezonder en zelfstandiger thuis kan wonen. Nu en in de toekomst. We zijn een samenwerking van organisaties binnen cure, care, huisvesting, de overheid, onderwijs en onderzoek in regio Arnhem-Nijmegen.

De toekomst van logistieke robots in de zorg

Afgelopen donderdag vond een inspirerende Science Meets Business-bijeenkomst plaats op Noviotech Campus, waarin de mogelijkheden en uitdagingen van robots in de zorg centraal stonden.

Keynote spreker Maurice Magnée (HAN) schetste een toekomstbeeld waarin innovaties zoals logistieke robots een cruciale rol spelen in het verbeteren van zorgprocessen.
Thijs Dorssers (NL Robotics) belichtte daarna diverse Nederlandse initiatieven en het ecosysteem rondom medische en zorgrobots.
En Willem-Jan Lamers (Ambee) deelde inzichten in de complexe dynamiek van mens-robot interactie en de verwachtingen die daarbij komen kijken.

Tijdens de interactieve deelsessies gingen deelnemers actief met elkaar in gesprek, waarbij verschillende perspectieven werden gedeeld. Deze sessies boden waardevolle inzichten en lieten zien hoe samenwerken tot nieuwe ideeën en oplossingen kan leiden.

Al met al een waardevolle middag, waarin niet alleen veel kennis werd uitgewisseld, maar ook nieuwe connecties werden gelegd. Het blijft een uitdaging om de rol van robots in de zorg effectief vorm te geven, maar de toekomst ziet er veelbelovend uit!

SMB Netwerk Meeting: Innovatie in de Zorg – De Toekomst van Logistieke Robots

    • Sessie 3: Behavioral operations door Dennis Moeke, Lector Logistiek & Allianties en hoofddocent / onderzoeker Nienke Hofstra (HAN-AOO) over Mens versus Machine: Hoe Gedrag de Kracht van Robotica Vormt. Ontdek hoe menselijk gedrag de prestaties van operationele systemen beïnvloedt en hoe we met slimme procesontwerpen het maximale kunnen halen uit de samenwerking tussen mens en robot.

Radboudumc Investment Day blijft groeien

Op 9 oktober vond de vierde editie van de Radboudumc Investment Day plaats. Wetenschappers, ondernemers en investeerders uit de life sciences & health-sector kwamen samen om kennis uit te wisselen, te netwerken en te praten over nieuwe samenwerkingen.

Het evenement werd gezamenlijk georganiseerd door Briskr, Oost NL, Radboudumc en de Radboud Universiteit. Met ruim 200 aanwezigen was de opkomst opnieuw groter dan het jaar ervoor.

Succesvolle matchmaking

Keynote spreker Floris Rutjes, hoogleraar Organische Synthese aan de Radboud Universiteit, trapte het programma van het evenement af. Hij vertelde over zijn persoonlijke ervaring en betrokkenheid bij verschillende start-ups, waaronder Chiralix, FutureChemistry en Synaffix. Zijn verhaal bleek een uitstekend voorbeeld te zijn van hoe het mogelijk is om een succesvolle academische carrière te combineren met ondernemerschap, door het inzetten van een ondernemende cultuur binnen je onderzoeksgroep.

Tijdens het hele programma gingen deelnemers gerichte 1-op-1 gesprekken aan, die vooraf en tijdens het evenement konden worden gepland via een matching tool. Anderen ontmoetten elkaar spontaan tijdens de pauzes, borrels en het diner na afloop. Een vruchtbare combinatie, aldus een van de aanwezige investeerders: Ik waardeer het format van de Investment Day enorm. Het stelt me in staat om relevante, diepgaande gesprekken te voeren in een ontspannen, informele sfeer. Dit soort kansen krijg je nergens anders in Nederland.

Nienke Timmermans wint Martijn Kriens posterprijs

Dit jaar was Nienke Timmermans de winnaar van de posterwedstrijd, met haar idee voor een algoritme dat tremoren bij patiënten met de ziekte van Parkinson monitort. Zij ontving de Martijn Kriens Best Poster Award: een aanmoedigingsprijs van 2.500 euro voor haar idee. Inzendingen in de posterwedstrijd werden niet alleen beoordeeld op hun wetenschappelijke verdiensten, maar ook op hun potentieel om uiteindelijk uit te groeien tot een succesvol product.

De prijs is vernoemd naar Martijn Kriens, die helaas eerder dit jaar is overleden. Martijn was, naast vele andere dingen, een van de grondleggers van en een belangrijke drijvende kracht achter de Investment Day. Zijn passie, energie en gezelschap worden dierbaar herinnerd door het organisatieteam van de Investment Day en iedereen die hem kende.

Radboudumc Investmentday 2024

Book your seats for the fourth edition of Radboudumc Investment Day 2023 on October 9 in Nijmegen! Jointly organized by Radboudumc, Radboud University, Briskr and Oost NL, the Investment Day is a matchmaking event for investors, entrepreneurs and top researchers in the life sciences & health domain. It is a unique opportunity to gain new business contacts and talk about the potential value of research & innovation with industry experts.

Connecting people
Our main goal for the event is to enable attendees to connect with each other. For this purpose, the event utilizes a matchmaking platform for setting up 1-to-1 meetings and offers several parallel sessions from top researchers, promising startups and investors. This will allow participants to pick & mix presentations to their liking and reserve time for targeted 1-to-1 meetings in between and during the program.

Poster competition
The event includes a poster competition for research and early-stage development in life sciences & health with great potential for future impact. Prior to the event, researchers within Radboudumc and Radboud University have submitted abstracts for the competition, with a focus on how to translate the research to products & services, entrepreneurship and the market. The most promising entries will be displayed on posters during the Investment Day.

We have invited several entrepreneurs to display their innovations in the hall, for additional inspiration during the breaks.

The Investment Day will take place at the Radboudumc Experience Center from 12.00h to 17.30, with optional dinner and networking afterwards. The previous editions led to several new investments for start-ups who visited the event, and lasting contacts! To ensure a good balance between the three target audiences, the event is invite only.
